Un helicòpter és una aeronau propulsada per un motor, en la qual la sustentació prové d'un conjunt d'ales giratòries situades en la part superior de l'aparell. Aquesta configuració li permet aterrar i enlairar-se verticalment, mantenir-se quiet a l'aire i fins i tot volar en direcció lateral o marxa enrere.
